What's New — Mar 4
There is a lot in this update, so let me walk you through the highlights.
SongSplit
You can now upload any song and split it into its individual stems — vocals on one track, backing on another. From there you get a full player with waveform visualisation, per-stem volume controls, auto-detected key and BPM, and auto-generated lyrics synced to the vocal track.
The part I think teachers will find most useful: share links. Split a song and send the link directly to a student. They get the isolated stems and can start working with the material immediately.
Recording over backing tracks
Inside the SongSplit player, students can record themselves singing over the backing track. Their performance is saved with its own shareable link, so they can listen back critically or send it to you for feedback — similar to reviewing a lesson recording together.
My Recordings
There is now a recordings page that shows your performance history with view and share counts. It's designed so students can track how their recordings are being received when they share them.
EchoVQ Plus — $10/month
We've added a Plus tier for students who want to use SongSplit seriously: 15 tracks per month (up from 3 on Free), 4-stem separation, HQ audio, tempo and pitch control, stem downloads, and priority processing.
Free accounts get three splits per month to try it out.
Plans comparison page
There's a new page that lays out Free, Plus, Student, and Teacher plans side by side. Worth bookmarking if students ask you what plan they should be on.
Recording interface redesign
The recording interface has been rebuilt with a cleaner layout and a much more prominent record button. If your students have been uncertain about where to look or what to press, this should help.
Teacher dashboard improvements
The students page has been rebuilt with real data and a proper student detail view. The practice plan carousel is fixed (it was clipping on certain screen sizes), and sidebar click targets have been widened.
Smaller fixes
- Q's voice (text-to-speech) is now off by default for new accounts
- A double-trial bug affecting some signups has been resolved
- Count-in timing on recordings is fixed
- YouTube song player stability improvements and recording support
As always, if something isn't working the way you'd expect, or if you have thoughts on how any of this could be more useful in your studio, I'd genuinely love to hear it. The feedback calls are open — grab a time at echovq.com if you want to talk through any of it.
