Adding Messages When Assigning¶
When you assign an exercise, most interfaces let you add an optional message. This is hugely valuable.
What to include in assignment messages:
Focus cues: - "Pay attention to breath support on the long notes" - "Try to keep your timing tight — aim for under 50ms deviation"
Goals: - "See if you can hit 3 goal hits this week" - "Record this 5 times and pick your best attempt"
Context: - "This will help with that upper register issue we talked about" - "Prep for your audition next month — this works the passage you're struggling with"
Encouragement: - "I think you're ready for this challenge!" - "You've been doing great — let's level up"
Practical instructions: - "Warm up first with your usual routine" - "Record this at the end of your practice session when you're warmed up"
Why messages matter: Students practice alone. A short message from you provides context, motivation, and direction, making practice feel connected to your teaching relationship.
