Adding Students: Two Methods

EchoVQ gives you two ways to add students to your roster. Which one you use depends on whether the student already has an EchoVQ account.

Method 1: Create a New Student (They Don't Have an Account Yet)

This is the most common path — you're bringing a brand-new student onto the platform.

Step-by-step:

  1. Click "Add Student" button (top-right of Student Management page)
  2. Choose "Create New Student"
  3. Fill in the form:
  4. Name: Student's full name
  5. Email: Their email address (they'll receive login credentials here)
  6. Profile Picture (optional): Upload a photo if you have one handy

  7. Click "Create Student"

What happens next: - EchoVQ automatically generates a username and secure password for the student - The system creates a student account linked to your teacher profile - An email is sent to the student with their login credentials - The student can log in immediately and start using their account - They appear in your student list right away

Why it works this way: You're in control of onboarding. The student doesn't need to sign up themselves or navigate registration — you handle it, and they just log in with the credentials you provide. This is especially helpful for younger students, less tech-savvy singers, or when you want to get someone started quickly.

Teaching tip: When you create a student, send them a quick personal message (text, email, or in-person) like: "I just added you to EchoVQ! You should've gotten an email with your login info. Check your spam folder if you don't see it, and let me know if you have any trouble logging in."

Method 2: Add an Existing Student (They Already Have an Account)

If a student already uses EchoVQ (maybe they had another teacher on the platform, or they signed up independently), you can add them to your roster without creating a duplicate account.

Step-by-step:

  1. Click "Add Student" button
  2. Choose "Add Existing Student"
  3. Search for the student using:
  4. Email (exact match): Enter their exact email address
  5. Name (partial match): Enter at least 3 characters of their name

  6. Review search results:

  7. If searching by email: You'll see either "Student found" or "No student with that email exists"
  8. If searching by name: You'll see a list of matching students (name, email, username)

  9. Select the correct student from the results

  10. Click "Add to My Students"

What happens next: - The student is linked to your teacher account - They appear in your student list - You can now assign exercises, view their progress, and manage their practice plan - The student receives a notification that you're now their teacher

Important notes: - Privacy first: The search requires at least 3 characters to prevent fishing for random users - No duplicates: You can't add the same student twice — EchoVQ prevents duplicate assignments - Email is most reliable: If you know the student's email, that's the fastest way to find them

Teaching tip: Before adding an existing student, reach out to them first: "I'd like to add you to my teacher account on EchoVQ so I can assign exercises and track your progress. Can you confirm the email you used to sign up?" This avoids confusion and ensures you find the right person.
