Interpreting Progress: What "Good" Looks Like¶
Every student progresses at their own pace, but here are general patterns of healthy progress:
Early Stage (Weeks 1-4)¶
What you'll see: - Baselines being established (first few recordings set the starting point) - Wide variation in scores (students are finding their groove) - Few or no baseline improvements yet (takes time to hit 3 goals in a row) - Success rate stabilizing (students figuring out recording environment)
What to do: - Encourage consistency: "Just keep practicing — the system is learning your voice" - Don't over-analyze: Early data is noisy - Focus on habit-building, not metrics
Growth Stage (Months 2-6)¶
What you'll see: - Regular baseline improvements (every 2-4 weeks for engaged students) - Upward trends in timeline charts - Narrowing score variation (more consistent performance) - Some metrics improving faster than others (pitch often improves before timing, for example)
What to do: - Celebrate milestones: "You've hit 3 baseline improvements this month!" - Focus lessons on lagging metrics: "Let's work on note precision since it's plateaued" - Keep students motivated: "You're in the growth zone — this is where real change happens"
Mastery Stage (6+ months)¶
What you'll see: - Baseline improvements slow down (student is approaching their current potential ceiling) - Metrics plateau at high levels (85%+ overall scores) - Occasional regressions when trying harder exercises (this is healthy — they're challenging themselves) - Success rate remains high
What to do: - Introduce advanced challenges: Harder exercises, faster tempos, complex patterns - Shift focus from technique to artistry: "Your fundamentals are solid — now let's work on expression" - Acknowledge mastery: "You've come incredibly far. Your baselines are now at professional levels."
